How to Tell if You’re a Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced in CrossFit

Whether you’re just starting out or have been doing CrossFit for years, you will fall into one of these three categories.

Beginner:

Time Frame: 0-12 months

Ability Level: You are average or better at one of these types of movements.

Proficiency: You do most of your movements correctly but inefficiently.

Intermediate:

Time Frame: 1-3 years

Ability Level: You are good with at least two of these types of movements.

Proficiency: You know the movements and have pretty good form until the weights start to get moderate/heavy and you lose it.

Advanced:

Time Frame: 3+ years

Ability Level: You are good with all three types of movements.

Proficiency: You move well with whatever movement is thrown your way no matter if it is light or heavy for you.

What if you don’t quite meet the beginner standards?

You would fall into the Novice category and your goal is to just keep moving every day.  Work on getting a little bit better each day and always always always focus on technique. Create good habits on day 1.
