Brad Dugenske: Energy and Confidence

I first came Wreck Room because I needed a positive change in my life, I have been overweight for a long time and lacked the motivation to make the change on my own.

Initially walking into the Box I was a little nervous, I didn’t know anything about CrossFit except what I saw watching the Games on ESPN and didn’t think I would be able to do any of the movements.  After meeting with Butch for my first foundations class I quickly changed my view of CrossFit and learning how to start simple and progress.

I didn’t really know what I wanted to accomplish with CrossFit besides losing weight when I first started.  So I worked on eating right and working out as much as my body would let me.  First couple weeks I could only make it in 2-3 times a week, I had a hard time adjusting to actually putting in work. Before I knew it the weight was dropping like crazy and after just 6 short months I have lost a total of 55 lbs.

Currently I am working on losing another 25 lbs, being able to clean and jerk 225 lbs, and 5 strict HSPU’s.  My current challenge is trying to find the balance of still losing weight yet getting stronger at the same time. I have found that leaning on all of the Coaches at Wreck Room has given me a platform and path to succeed.

I feel absolutely amazing now compared to when I started.  My energy level has gone through the roof.  I have been coaching soccer for the past 4 years, and now I can actually get on the field and practice with my teams instead of just directing them, which in turn makes them practice better.

There are a great deal of things that have changed about me since I first started at Wreck Room. If I had to choose one I would say it is my confidence. I am completely astonished at the difference if my confidence level, be it a movement I have never tried in the gym or troubleshooting a problem at work.  Where I would doubt myself before and never even attempt a movement and automatically scale it.  Now I go for it and find it wasn’t half as hard as I made it out to be.
